Creative Portland and The Portland Daily Sun have launched a "media partnership" to promote the city's popular First Friday Art Walk to a wider audience, Creative Portland announced in a press release.
Creative Portland, a group that describes itself as "a nonprofit organization that leverages, grows and sustains Portland's creative industries, enterprises and workforce," has promoted the Art Walk online at http://www.liveworkportland.org/arts/walk.
Beginning Friday, July 5, The Portland Daily Sun will feature Creative Portland's editorial, map and exhibit list on pages 3 to 5 of the daily newspaper. Art walkers can pick up free copies of Friday's Portland Daily Sun in their distribution boxes throughout the city.
Creative Portland offers free listings online and in print for venues in the city of Portland participating in the First Friday Art Walk. Eligible venues agree to offer free admission to an art exhibit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the First Friday of the month. Venues register and update their exhibit information online at firstfridayartwalk.com.
The First Friday Art Walk was founded in October 2000 to open the doors of Portland's arts community by joining together and introducing a wider audience to the unique vitality of the artists and venues of Portland, and by promoting interest with non-exclusivity and easy access. Today, dozens of venues participate in the Art Walk each month-rain, snow, sleet or shine-and thousands of art lovers from Maine and beyond come to experience the state's largest monthly free cultural event.

The Portland Daily Sun published a Wednesday-Thursday edition this week in honor of Independence Day, and the Friday edition as always is the weekend edition of the free daily.
