At the intersection of North Raymond Road and Ledgehill Road, Chynna Blaney, 19, of Raymond, was traveling with her 6-month-old infant son in a 1999 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Ledgehill Road and entered the intersection of North Raymond Road toward Poland, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Blaney was not familiar with the area and failed to stop at the posted stop sign, said Capt. Donald Goulet with the sheriff's office.
The car was struck by a 2003 Ford F-150 Truck, traveling southbound on North Raymond road toward Gray, Goulet reported. Angie Horler, 35, from New Gloucester was driving the truck with her two young children in the vehicle,.
When the two vehicles collided at the intersection, the Toyota Corolla sustained serious damage to the driver side of the car, and the 6-month-old child was ejected from his child safety seat that was belted in the back of the car, Goulet reported.
"The child landed in the soft snow of the wooded area approximately 25 feet from the resting point of this vehicle," Goulet reported in a press release. "The child was located in the woods by Mrs. Horler who had observed something being ejected during the impact of the two vehicles."
On Friday, Goulet provided an update on the 6-month-old baby and his mother, stating that both were recovering at Maine Medical Center with non-life thratening injuries. He said the incident illustrated the importance of child safety seats.
Horler was transported to Mercy Hospital for minor injury/complaint of pain, Goulet reported. The two young children, ages 2 and 5, sustained no injury and were released from the scene.
The Ford F-150 sustained serious front end damage.
The crash is being reconstructed by the Cumberland County Reconstruction Unit; and the matter remains under investigation, Goulet said.
Fire and EMS resources from Raymond, Gray and Poland responded to assist at the scene.
