A man driving southbound on Interstate 295 near Forest Avenue Monday afternoon lost control of his vehicle and suffered serious injuries when his car rolled, landing on its roof.
“The vehicle was resting on its roof and the driver was pinned in the vehicle,” said Captain Phil McGouldrick with the Portland Fire Department.Image may be NSFW.

A dozen emergency responders including McGouldrick, who was driving on the interstate at the time, and two engine companies, heavy rescue and an ambulance, answered the call and extricated the man from his upside-down vehicle. Police maintained one lane of travel southbound but closed down the inside and breakdown lanes.
The victim in the crash was wearing a seatbelt but suffered serious injuries in the high-speed rollover, McGouldrick said. Firefighters cut him out of the driver’s side of the car, removing both doors, he said.
“We have no idea what caused the accident,” McGouldrick said.
The victim, a young male probably in his 30s, was transported to Maine Medical Center, McGouldrick said.
The call came in around 3:10 p.m., according to Troop A, Maine State Police. Police closed the Forest Avenue exit for southbound traffic, Troop A reported.
Southbound traffic came to a near standstill, but the scene was cleared within an hour and traffic flow was restored, officials estimated.
